***911 TRUTH SKIPTON*** PERSPECTIVE: - Do we just focus on 9/11? Well that is up to each individual involved in the campaign. As stated elsewhere on this website, the Skipton 9/11 Truth movement is not a ‘club’ with exclusive membership, a ‘leader’ or a ‘rule book’. As stated throughout this site, the Skipton 9/11 Truth movement has no membership list, a group leader or rule book. It is just a banner for like minded individuals to flock to. ONLINE DISCUSSIONS, FORUMS, CYBERSTALKERS & 'TROLLS' - How this effects our public image We know it's ugly, but we need to disassociate ourselves from it! From time to time we observe and take the time to post comments on local online forums based in and around Skipton. We do this, as a number of people take part in online 'communities' nowadays and it is a good way of networking. (IMPORTANT: It is important to note that as we are a 'grassroots' operation, we do not know every individual who posts on these threads, including the people who share our views that the attacks of 9/11 were an inside job. This is a public forum, many of the posters may not even live near Skipton!.) Local online communities are always meant to be fun and can be used to chat, promote local events, meet new friends etc. But inevitably, we have found ourselves frequently attacked (usually in an adolescent manner over petty non-issues) on these forums by a few members of the public. Sometimes we will start a thread (e.g. innocently thanking the people of Skipton for attending a recent event) and the attackers will hijack the thread, falsely claiming that we are on a racist agenda or they will otherwise stir up hostility with antagonistic comments about the movement and its supporters. This tactic of spoiling an otherwise productive discussion is well recognised and is widely known as 'Trolling', the perpetrators being known as 'Trolls'. WIKIPEDIA: "In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, often in the form of posting messages that are inflammatory, insulting, incorrect, inaccurate, absurd, or off-topic, with the intent of provoking a reaction from others." We are well aware that these self-assured people are on a crusade to seek attention, glean respect and cling to a perceived moral high ground whilst engaging in their own personal 'crimestop' and other group-think attacks against us, so we rarely feed into this by addressing them directly (talk about adding fuel to a fire!). Not to mention the 'waste of time' factor in that these forums are read by a comparatively small percentage of the public, compared to the kind of numbers we reach when focusing our time and energy on public events and other activism. We are also aware that by ignoring the 'trolls' false (some would say egotistical) claims of their opponents (i.e. us) being deluded with grandeur, insane, dangerous etc etc that this makes them feel that they have 'won' to some degree (because refusing to respond is often a sign of failure). The emphasis is that this is not a school playground, so we do not care if they think that "my bike is better than your bike!". Patting ourselves on the back some, we have a valuable operation based in Skipton. Websites with close to 1,000,000 hits a month, key contribution to tours around the UK - each event packing out halls with 300 people a time, press coverage. DVD production and distribution. All of this would be frustrated if we spent our time unspinning the propaganda and disinformation put out on a few small-circulation message boards. Hence we seldom defend ourselves from it. SUMMARY ADVISE TO CAMPAIGNERS: I recommend any 9/11 truth researcher not to waste too much time on message boards, as these will always be hijacked by the 'trolls'. Remember, they have more time to spare than you do, assuming that you intend on making a difference in the campaign. SUMMARY ADVISE TO OUR NON-ACTIVE VISITORS: Please do not judge our campaign based on the tirades that you see on the internet forums. We (the Skipton 9/11 truth campaign) pride ourselves on our professional conduct, our desire to ignore petty issues and primarily on our dedication to spreading the truth about a single event that has ended and ruined the lives of a large number of people. RESPONSE TO OUR 'INTERNET TROLLING' OPPONENTS: None, as ignoring them is widely understood as being the best method of dealing with 'Trolls'. Our activities are our defense against their accusations against us. Our vindication is in the truth and the publics awareness of it. Time will tell? Time has told... |
